Origins of Magick with a K
![]() So we all know how Thelemites like to think Crowley invented everything. I was recently told I have no right to use the spelling 'magick' because I am not a Thelemite and Crowley invented it, lol.
Magick is an Early Modern English spelling for magic, used in works such as the 1651 translation of Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's De Occulta Philosophia, Three Books of Occult Philosophy, or Of Magick. The British Occultist Aleister Crowley chose the spelling to differentiate the Occult from stage magic, as do the vast majority of other Occultists, Gnostics, Esotericists, Alchemists. My own personal reason for using it, rather than magic, is also to differentiate between pulling rabbits out of hats, and the magick training which leads to illumination. Plus, the letter K is the eleventh letter of the English alphabet and the number 11 is very important to me and my own magickal workings. My birth number 11 and I was born at 11:11. To me 11 is a magick number. So next time a Thelemite comes along acting all arrogant, because yes most of them do, I can just point them to this little article. ..
